Fashion-forward styling for all types of music

Each ensemble has specific requirements for the outfit worn for performances. GBS provides certain items for use during the school year, which are marked with an (*). Students are responsible for acquiring the remaining items, many of which will be available for purchase from the GBSIL during fittings and throughout the year. Marching Band

The traditional marching uniform includes:

Black Marching ShoesAvailable for purchase. Sized during uniform fitting 
Black Socks*Solid black, extending up to mid-calf or knee.  The first pair will be provided.
Band Polo ShirtWhite insignia shirt, available for purchase.  Worn under the marching jacket or as an alternative uniform during warm weather events.
Khaki ShortsWorn prior to every marching event, as well as with the white polo shirt as an alternative uniform.
Bib & Jacket*Sized during uniform fitting.
Shako*Band hat. Sized during uniform fitting.
Gauntlets*Sized during uniform fitting.

Special Notes for the Marching Uniform
  • GBS provides each student with a marching uniform consisting of a jacket, gauntlets, pants and hat. 
  • Uniform fitting occur over the summer. 
  • Uniforms are stored at school. Each student will be issued a labeled hanger, labeled hatbox and an assigned locker in the bandroom.
  • After each wearing, hang your jacket and bibs on your personalized hanger.
  • Write your name in your shoes and store them in your assigned bandroom cage. Do NOT store them in the shared uniform cabinet.
  • Store your shako in your hatbox in your personal bandroom cabinet.
  • Wear your gauntlets over your jacket sleeves and store them in your hatbox.
  • Always tuck your hair inside your shako.  Long hair needs to be secured in a pony tail and tucked into your shako.  Alternatively, hair that extends to your uniform collar must be secured with a hair net.  Pin up any stray hair.  (Uniform Crew carries extra pins.)
  • Neither nail polish nor any earrings or visible jewelry may be worn during a marching event.

Concert Formal Wear

Symphonic and Concert BandWomen: a formal dress*, with low-heeled black dress shoes.
Men: bow tie* and cummerbund*, with a white tuxedo shirt, black pants, black shoes and black socks.
Symphonic Winds BandWomen: a formal dress*, with low-heeled black dress shoes.
Men: tuxedo coat* and pant*, bow tie* and cummerbund*, with a white tuxedo shirt, black shoes and black socks.
Titan (Freshman) BandWomen: a formal dress*, with low-heeled black dress shoes.
Men: bow tie* and cummerbund*, with a white tuxedo shirt, black pants, black shoes and black socks.

Special Notes for the Concert Uniform
  • Fittings coincide with summer marching band fittings.
  • The same Tuxedo Shirt can be used for all ensembles, including orchestra, choir and symphonic band.
  • Marching Band shoes may be worn for any ensemble, as long as they’re polished.

Jazz Band

Jazz LabAll Black. No gym shoes.
Jazz EnsembleDresses or Coats/Ties. No gyms shoes.

Pep Band

Uniform standard is relatively loose. Students typically wear blue and gold, GBS spirit wear or a recent marching band show shirt and jeans.

Your Uniform is Your Responsibility

  • After EACH wearing, hang your dresses, jacket and bibs, place your shako and gauntlets inside your hatbox and store everything in your assigned cabinet.
  • Failure to properly store your uniform will result in point deductions from your grade.
  • School-issued uniform items are collected after the Memorial Day Parade.  
  • Students will be charged the non-return of any items issued in the Fall.  Grades will be held back and graduation tickets for seniors will be on hold until uniform issues are resolved.
