Mr. Brian Boron

Director of Bands

Mr. Brian Boron has been the Director of Bands at Glenbrook South High School since 2017 where his duties include directing four curricular bands, jazz band, courses in music production, percussion coach for the Glenbrook Symphony Orchestra, Director of the Marching Titans, and pit conductor of the Glenbrook South Variety Show. Before working at Glenbrook South, he taught kindergarten through fifth grade general music in Waukegan, IL and served as the pit instructor for the GBS Marching Titans during the 2016 season.

Mr. Boron graduated from the University of Iowa in 2014 with a degree in Percussion Performance and Music Education, where he studied with Dr. Andy Therauf and Dr. Dan Moore. During his time at Iowa, he was a member of the Hawkeye Marching Band, several concert bands, percussion ensemble, and the PanAmerican Steel Band. Mr. Boron has performed twice with the Iowa Percussion Ensemble at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention.  He previously studied with Jeff Hoke and Patricia Dash. In 2022, Mr. Boron received special recognition by the Illinois State Board of Education for their “Those Who Excel” program. He completed his graduate work in 2023 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Master’s in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership.

Mr. Cody Halberstadt

Instructional Supervisor for Fine Arts & Band Director

Mr. Halberstadt joined the staff of Glenbrook South High School in 2021 as the Instructional Supervisor for Fine Arts. In this capacity, he supervises the Music, Art, Broadcasting, and Drama departments, and co-directs curricular concert bands. Prior to his appointment in the Glenbrooks, Mr. Halberstadt served as the Director of Bands at Crystal Lake South (IL) and Woodstock (IL) High Schools, and as the Student Activities Director at Crystal Lake South. In addition to his duties at GBS, he has served in leadership capacities for professional and community organizations, including the Illinois Music Education Association and the McHenry County Youth Orchestra. He is currently the ILMEA District 7 President, where he serves as a leader and advocate for music programs throughout Northeastern Illinois.

Mr. Halberstadt served in the U.S. Air Force Bands Program for eight years as a saxophonist and conductor. In this role, he toured extensively throughout the United States, performing as a member of the 566th Air Force Band of the Midwest, and temporary duty assignments in the 531st Air Force Band of the Southwest and the Air Force Academy Band. Performances included regional tours, Gubernatorial inaugurations, supporting military and dignitary functions, and conferences such as the Midwest Clinic and the Illinois Music Education Conference.

A graduate of the University of Illinois, Mr. Halberstadt earned bachelors and masters degrees in music education, studying conducting with Dr. Joseph Manfredo and saxophone with Debra Richtmeyer. He performed as a saxophonist in the Illinois Wind Symphony under James Keene and as a member of the Marching Illini. After obtaining his masters in music education, Mr. Halberstadt completed a second masters in education administration from Concordia University Chicago, where he is currently pursuing an Ed.D.

Mr. Nicholas Krejci

Assistant Director of Bands

Mr. Nicholas Krejci serves as Assistant Band Director at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, IL where he teaches the marching band, jazz band, and pep bands.

Mr. Krejci serves full time as the Director of Bands at Butler Junior High School in Oak Brook, IL where he leads the Cadet Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band.

Mr. Krejci earned his Bachelor’s Degrees in Music Education and Music Performance from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. While attending the University of Iowa, he played in many different ensembles such as the Johnson County Landmark, Symphonic Band, Latin Jazz Band, Symphony Orchestra, and many different chamber ensembles. Mr. Krejci also marched for four years with the World Class Drum and Bugle Corps., two years in Jersey Surf out of Camden County, New Jersey, and for two years with the Colts out of Dubuque, Iowa, where he served as baritone section leader.

Mr. Krejci currently studies over the summer at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for his Masters of Music Education where he will serve as one of the counselors at the Illinois Summer Youth Music Camps! Mr. Krejci also teaches with the Colt Cadets drum and bugle corps out of Dubuque, IA.
