Hello Band Families!

Congratulations to the Wind Ensemble on an incredible first performance of the year! They were joined by the bands from Field, Springman, and Attea, who also had wonderful performances!

This Thursday, CBS News is doing a school spotlight on Glenbrook South! The Marching Band has been asked to be a part of it. The start time in the Titan Dome is 5:30am, so please arrive with enough time to get your instruments. The only “uniform” piece you need is the shirt that you will receive during your PE class next week. 

Unfortunately, the football team’s playoff run is over. Thank you to everyone for a great marching band season! The next performance for the marching band will be the Saturday after Thanksgiving at the Glenview Holiday Parade in Downtown Glenview!

Mrs. Fields Cookies and Cheesecakes 

Whether or not you are traveling with us to Nashville, it’s never too late to build up your fundraising account! As a reminder, the money raised can be passed down between siblings and between choir, band, and GSO. This fundraiser includes Mrs. Fields Cookies, Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes, Cinnaroll, and other holiday favorites!

Fundraising Dates: Nov. 3 – Nov.17
Delivery Date: Week of Dec. 15th
Profit Margin: Between 25-40% profit margin based on total items sold

There are two ways to participate in the fundraiser:

Paper orders: cash/checks submitted with hard copy order form.  There are some packets in the band room or contact Mr. Kaplan for the form.  Checks made payable to GSO Parents Association

Raise Right

Raise Right fundraising continues to go well! Nineteen families are currently participating, and they have earned an average of $147 that can be used for band fees or the upcoming band trip.

Hello Band Families!

Thank you to all our Marching Titans and all the volunteers who helped with our wonderful competitive season! We’re sorry that yesterday’s competition was canceled, but you have so much to be proud of, and still a few performances to look forward to! The band finishes their scheduled performances this week at Band-O-Rama on Monday and the football game on Friday. Seniors, please be in full uniform, ready for photos at 5:40pm on Monday. Call time for all other students on Monday is 5:45 p.m.  The football team has clinched a spot in the playoffs. If we have a home game, it will be communicated via eblast and google classroom as soon as details are available. 

Jazz Band is starting! All interested students are welcome to come to the clinic on Thursday, October 30th from 4:30-6pm. Placement auditions will be held on Thursday, November 6th after school by appointment slot. The first jazz rehearsal will be held on Thursday, November 13th from 4:30-6:30pm. If you are going to participate in jazz, please come to the club photo. Times are posted on google classroom.

Chaperones & Equipment Volunteers Needed!!

Football Game Volunteers are needed on Friday, 10/24
Chaperones: Help the band students get ready before the game, monitor the students during the game, and provide water to the band.  We also watch over the bleachers where the students will leave their things. Please wear your yellow chaperone shirt to be easily identified.  Report to the band room at 6 pm and check in with the Chaperone Chairs.

Equipment Crew: Help move equipment/props onto/off the field.  Meet in front of the equipment shed, which is located under the south end of the home-team bleachers.

Band Families: Please join other band families at the game!!  A group of us have been sitting in the bleachers right next to the band at the north end of the stadium.  It’s a great way to meet other families, cheer the band on as a group, & see your band student up close.

Winter Wonderland Fundraiser

10/13-11/7
Today kicks off our Winter Wonderland sale!  All profits from this sale go directly to student accounts to offset the cost of this year’s trip to Nashville.  If you are not participating in this year’s trip, funds raised will be banked to offset band costs and/or future trip fees.
The fundraiser runs from October 13 to November 7.

There are two ways to sell. You may select one or both options.

1. Take orders in person on paper. Pick up a packet from Mr. Boron and return to the band room by November 7 with money. Cash or checks to GBSIL (Glenbrook South Instrumental League) are accepted.

2. Sell online. Visit www.supportmyschool.org and register to sell via the website. The school ID is 546032. 

Please note, the company has several types of fundraisers. Please only take orders from the Winter Wonderland catalogue.

RaiseRight Fundraiser

Guess what? 39 families have signed up to fundraise through Raise Right. Guess what else? 16 of those families have started earning money through Raise Right. Hooray for Evan, Brielle, Macy, Charlie, Zoe, Haneen, Simone & Lily, Weston, Mira, Madison, Ema & Nina, Lauren, Jake, Liam, Keira and Ryan! You are earning money to be used for band fees and trip expenses as well as helping the band. Of dollars earned, 75% is the student’s and 25% goes to the band account. So far these families have earned a total of $1,692.53 for their fees and an additional $564.18 to support the band. Well done!
As a reminder, families can earn money in four ways.

  1. Purchase gift cards that can be used for everyday items, such as groceries, gas, and clothing. A percentage of that gift card is earned as a rebate. I have often purchased a gift card through the app while in line waiting to checkout. I have done this at Jewel, Kohls and REI. Purchasing gift cards earns the most money.  Click here to see the list of companies with gift card options. 
  2. Purchase items online. This online rebate rate isn’t as high as purchasing a gift card, but it is another way to earn and you can earn twice on a single purchase. I buy pet food on Chewy.com. I purchase the items online and use a Raise Right gift card. I earn percentages for the online purchase as well as the gift card.
  3. The easiest way to earn is through Local Dining. Once you register your credit card in your Raise Right account, when you spend money at local restaurants, you receive a rebate. You don’t need to do anything. The list of restaurants participating in this benefit can be found in the Raise Right app. Some of the local restaurants are The Clove, Tavern On the Glen, Eggspresso at The Glen, Uncle Julio’s Old Orchard and Bar Siena. 
  4. Book travel. Many of you likely have credit cards where you earn travel points. If you book through the Raise Right website, you can still earn those travel points while also earning Raise Right money. Think of this option as using an Expedia-type website to book your travel. You will see the potential earnings as you click through travel options.

Unload truck and assist during the competition, reload truck, then return to GBS to unload and help in returning equipment to the band room. (Departure time from the competition site TBD, as we may bring equipment back ahead of band’s return.)
2 Drivers are also needed to drive the 2 trucks full of equipment/props both to & from the competition site.

Chaperones: Take attendance on buses, inspect uniforms at the competition, help with plume distribution, provide water and basic first aid as needed before/during/after competition. Chaperones are able to see our band perform.

Equipment Crew: The Equipment Crew will meet at the GBS football field for a final run through with the band, then help load moving truck with equipment before our departure for each competition. Unload truck and assist during the competition, reload truck, then return to GBS to unload and help in returning equipment to the band room. (Departure time from the competition site TBD, as we may bring equipment back ahead of band’s return.)
2 Drivers are also needed to drive the 2 trucks full of equipment/props both to & from the competition site.

Student Fundraising

Guess what? 39 families have signed up to fundraise through Raise Right. Guess what else? 16 of those families have started earning money through Raise Right. Hooray for Evan, Brielle, Macy, Charlie, Zoe, Haneen, Simone & Lily, Weston, Mira, Madison, Ema & Nina, Lauren, Jake, Liam, Keira and Ryan! You are earning money to be used for band fees and trip expenses as well as helping the band. Of dollars earned, 75% is the student’s and 25% goes to the band account. So far these families have earned a total of $1,692.53 for their fees and an additional $564.18 to support the band. Well done!

As a reminder, families can earn money in four ways.

  1. Purchase gift cards that can be used for everyday items, such as groceries, gas, and clothing. A percentage of that gift card is earned as a rebate. I have often purchased a gift card through the app while in line waiting to checkout. I have done this at Jewel, Kohls and REI. Purchasing gift cards earns the most money.  Click here to see the list of companies with gift card options. 
  2. Purchase items online. This online rebate rate isn’t as high as purchasing a gift card, but it is another way to earn and you can earn twice on a single purchase. I buy pet food on Chewy.com. I purchase the items online and use a Raise Right gift card. I earn percentages for the online purchase as well as the gift card.
  3. The easiest way to earn is through Local Dining. Once you register your credit card in your Raise Right account, when you spend money at local restaurants, you receive a rebate. You don’t need to do anything. The list of restaurants participating in this benefit can be found in the Raise Right app. Some of the local restaurants are The Clove, Tavern On the Glen, Eggspresso at The Glen, Uncle Julio’s Old Orchard and Bar Siena. 
  4. Book travel. Many of you likely have credit cards where you earn travel points. If you book through the Raise Right website, you can still earn those travel points while also earning Raise Right money. Think of this option as using an Expedia-type website to book your travel. You will see the potential earnings as you click through travel options.

Hello Band Families!

They also did a great job performing with the Attea, Field, and Springman bands on Friday! Thank you to all of the volunteers who made these performances possible and run smoothly!

The Marching Titans will continue their competition season this Saturday at Northern Illinois University! Call time is 9:30 a.m.

If you are planning to audition for ILMEA, you must fill out the google form on google classroom by 8am this Tuesday! Please stop by the band office if you need music or have any questions.

Director’s Notes!

Hello Band Families!

THE BAND AND CHOIR ARE GOING TO NASHVILLE! All students enrolled in either program are invited to travel with us! You can find information on the trip here. You must register for the trip through the Bob Rogers portal by THIS FRIDAY, September 12, 2025.

The Marching Titans hosted the Attea Flyers, Field Tigers, and Springman Wildcats this week at Junior High Band Day! You can catch a special halftime performance at this Friday’s football game!

Competition season is here! The Marching Titans will be taking the field at Victor J. Andrew this Saturday! You can buy tickets for the competition in advance at this link. If you are planning on attending the competition, please read this info from the Victor J. Andrew Band Director regarding parking:

Spectator Parking will be available in remote lots near Victor J. Andrew High School with school bus shuttles running throughout the day. Street parking near VJA is also available. There will be handicapped parking available on-site with a valid placard. Maps for the remote lots are attached. This parking arrangement will offer a safer flow for ensembles while on campus. It also increases our overall parking availability by double the amount we had on campus in previous years. Please make sure this information is shared with your families and fans. They should be aware to allow a bit of extra time to park and take the shuttle. I would estimate 45 minutes to an hour ahead of your performance time would be sufficient to take a shuttle.

GBS Band Weekly Update – 6/8/2025

Do you know any incoming freshman marching band students?  If so, please reach out to let them know that they and their parents should join the mailing list so that they don’t miss any important information.

The first summer rehearsal is Thursday, 6/26 – 5:45-9:00 p.m.

There will be a brief meeting at the beginning of rehearsal for parents of incoming marching students to answer questions, etc.  Look for parents wearing yellow shirts!!

We need many volunteers to make the week run smoothly.

Volunteer help is needed to keep our kids hydrated, fed, and generally well cared for. No experience is necessary, and everyone works with a partner! Volunteering is a great opportunity for parents to get a firsthand look at all the hard work that goes into putting on such an exceptional show. The students have such a long day and it’s important that we show our support. Our volunteer slots are short and flexible so if you have sometime in your day, we would love to see you! 

We would appreciate your help in the following areas:

Chaperones:  distribute water, sunscreen, and administer minor first aid and TLC to our bandies.   When we’re not doing that (which is most of the time), we get to relax in the shade of the tent and enjoy the beautiful music!  

Dinner Helpers:  simple prep, serve, and cleanup of a pre-ordered dinner

SW(HOT) Team:  if you can’t sign up for a regular slot but are willing to be called in, last-minute,  If hot temperatures require more help, then please sign up for the SW(HOT) Team (get it?!)

Fundraising

In the last three months, 9 band families have signed up for Raise Right to earn a combined total of $900 for student band fees and the band program. When you raise money for your student, you also help the band program pay the fees for the marching band show (>$8500) and purchase instruments for students to use. Gift cards can be used for everyday items like groceries, gas and pet food, or year-end thank you cards for teachers and coaches. Thanks to those who are taking advantage of the program.
