Director’s Notes

Hello GBS Band Family!

We are both thrilled and saddened to share that Mr. Boron is officially on leave through the end of the school year. On Wednesday afternoon, Mr. & Mrs. Boron’s first child, Noah Seth, was born! The entire family is doing well and we wish them the best as they start this new adventure as a family of three!

We are also pleased to introduce Dr. Daniel Brame as Mr. Boron’s long-term substitute teacher through the end of the school year. Prior to his retirement, Dr. Brame served as the Director of Bands at Deerfield High School for 31 years. He is also a GBS Band Alum and is thrilled to be back working with the band program that inspired him to pursue a career in music education. Please make sure to welcome Dr. Brame back to the GBS Band Family!

As a reminder, the marching band show for next year has been announced. You can find the announcement video here and the tentative schedule for the marching band season. Thank you for your continued support of our band program, we are looking forward to a great end to the school year and a strong start to next season!

Hello Band Families!

I hope you are enjoying your long weekend! This Friday, all students enrolled in a marching band class will be called out of blocks 3 and 4 for the Spring Sports and Spirit Assembly! Eat lunch during 3A, then come to the band room at the start of 3B. Please remember to wear GBS Blue & Gold. If you need a new pep band packet, please email as soon as possible!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the North Shore Honor Band Festival this weekend! You represented our program and school very well!

Hello Band Families!

Join the band next Sunday, for our winter concert! All curricular bands will be performing, and there will be a special performance from the Glenview Concert Band! Students need to be on stage at the following times (Titan Band must be on stage in concert attire; Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will have time to change after their sound check):

Wind Ensemble: 1:00pm
Symphonic Band: 1:40pm
Titan Band: 2:10pm

The day after the concert, the Band Student Council will be hosting a holiday gathering in the band room! All band students are invited! More details to come!

Hello Band Families! Congratulations to the jazz bands on their great performance at the Jazz Cafe! You all played really well, and you should be very proud of your hard work! Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible, especially our fundraising chair, Erin Newman!

Congratulations to Sophia Lim, who performed in the ILMEA All-State Honor Band this weekend. Sophia spent Thursday, Friday, and Saturday working with guest conductor Dr. Clifton Croomes from the University of Texas at Austin. 

We have V-Show pit rehearsal every day this week! Our sitzprobe with the back-up singers happens on Thursday and Friday. You can view the full Pit schedule here. 

This week is our final Pep Band performance of the year! On Friday, Attea’s 8th graders will be joining us. Rehearsal will start at 6:00pm, but the GBSIL is generously bringing in pizza around 5:15pm so we can welcome our newest Titans to the band program!

Director’s Notes

Hello Band Families! The first Jazz Band performance of the year is here! We hope you can join us for the Jazz Cafe on Tuesday! Jazz Band Students will have a call time of 5:30pm on the 28th. There will be performances by the Jazz Combo, The Maple Jazz Band, Jazz Lab, and Jazz Ensemble! There will also be a lot of great prizes available!

All extra baked goods from the Jazz Cafe will be sold at a bake sale after school. We will need several student volunteers to help run this bake sale. If you would like to help, please fill out this google form!

We only have one V-Show Pit rehearsal this week. You can view the full Pit schedule here. 

We have 2 pep band performances left for this year. Our next one is this Friday. You can find the full schedule here. For our final game on February 7th, we will be joined by 8th graders from Attea!

Director’s Notes

Hello Band Families! I hope you had a great first week back and are ready for finals week!

Yesterday, 13 GBS Band students participated in the North Shore Honor Band Festival at Lake Forest High School. Congratulations to all those who were selected to be part of the ensembles!

There is no pep band this week. You can find the full schedule here. 

Anyone who is participating in V-Show in any capacity must attend the meeting this Wednesday in the auditorium. You will be receiving important information regarding scheduling, tickets, and policies. You can view the full Pit schedule here! It’s going to be the BEST V-SHOW EVER!

There will be a modified schedule for jazz band on Thursday. All groups will rehearse in the band room. Here are the times for each ensemble.

Jazz Lab: 1:15-2:15pm
Jazz Ensemble: 2:15-3:15pm
Jazz Combo: 3:15-4:00pm

Also Thursday, we have Incoming Freshman Curriculum Night! This is a great opportunity to welcome future Titans and answer all their questions about the Band Program! If you would like to volunteer to help with this recruiting event, please fill out this google form.

GBSIL is looking for donations to be auctioned off at the Jazz Cafe Silent Auction on Tuesday, January 28th. 

Desired items including but not limited to:  tickets to sports or cultural events around town, gift cards to local businesses, clothing, art, and/or travel or vacation home rentals – anything likely to draw bids at auction. 

In addition, or as an alternative to donated items for the auction, we are asking that you consider making a cash donation to help fund GBS’s growing and thriving band programs.
