Director’s Notes

Hello Band Families! Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful winter break! We are jumping right back in with a busy week in band!

We kick off our 2025 performances on Tuesday with Pep Band and have another game on Friday! You can find the full schedule here. 

V-Show Auditions are this week on Wednesday and Saturday! If you would like to be in the Pit Band for the 50th Annual V-Show, you can sign up here! You can view the full Pit schedule here! It’s going to be the BEST V-SHOW EVER! If you would like to reserve the band room to practice your act, please email Mr. Boron.

This Friday and Saturday, a handful of GBS Band students will be participating in the North Shore Honor Band Festival at Lake Forest High School. If you were selected for this, you will be receiving a permission slip this week. If you are participating in North Shore Honor Band and auditioning for V-Show, please make sure you have signed up for a Wednesday audition time.

GBSIL is looking for donations to be auctioned off at the Jazz Cafe Silent Auction on Tuesday, January 28th. 

Desired items including but not limited to:  tickets to sports or cultural events around town, gift cards to local businesses, clothing, art, and/or travel or vacation home rentals – anything likely to draw bids at auction. 

In addition, or as an alternative to donated items for the auction, we are asking that you consider making a cash donation to help fund GBS’s growing and thriving band programs.

Congratulations to every band student on an incredible concert this afternoon! You should be very proud of how you performed and how much you’ve grown since the start of the year! 

Our last pep band game before winter break is this Wednesday! Drum Majors will be announcing the themes during the week. You can find the tentative schedule here.

Our winter concert is a week from today! Join us at 3:00pm in the Norman E. Watson Auditorium for the first concert of the school year. Students need to wear black shoes, black socks, black dress pants, and their black concert shirt. Rehearsals before the concerts will start at the following times for each group:

Symphonic Winds: 1:05pm
Symphonic-Concert Band: 1:40pm
Titan Band: 2:10pm

We can’t wait to see you at the concert!

Hello Band Families!

Welcome back! I hope you had a relaxing break! It’s time to finish out the semester and get ready for a lot of music in the spring!

We have two more jazz band rehearsals until our first performance on January 23rd in the Jazz Cafe! Mark your calendars- this is also a fundraiser and auction where you can win great prizes!

We have pep band this Friday. Themes will be announced by drum majors and section leaders this week! This Friday and Saturday, we will also have students participating in the North Shore Honor Band Festival at Lake Forest High School. An email with more information will be going out directly to those students. 

V-Show is coming up! The pit schedule can be found here. If you are signed up for Pit, you need to be at the full cast meeting on the 17th. We will begin rehearsals the following Monday.
